Written and Illustrated: Amelie Snowdon
Amelie Snowdon is a 17-year-old high school student at Strathcona High School in Edmonton. Her two favorite hobbies are reading and drawing, and she also likes to write short stories. She plays AA ringette for the Edmonton Ringette Club, and she loves baking. When she wants to take a bit of time to herself, she takes her dog Sammy for walks in the river valley. Next year, she will be attending the University of Alberta’s Fine Arts program for visual art and design. Her dream job would be to one day become an author or an illustrator, as she is fascinated by how words can become images and how images can tell stories. When she heard about this contest, she immediately wanted to create something for it. She remembers being highly influenced by the stories she read as a child, so she knows how important it is for kids to have stories that highlight the importance of diversity and the beauty of differences.
